E32 - Dunnet Head Wartime Remains [CA]
2 October 2021
Starts: 10:00
Ends: 15:00

A guided tour around two secret WW2 radar stations led by Andrew Guttridge. First a Coastal Defence Radar station on the northern tip of the Scottish mainland, where the Royal Navy kept watch for German U-Boats in the waters around Caithness and Orkney, followed by a tour around the site of a 'Gee' radio navigation station, the first electronic navigation system, which was used to guide RAF bombers to their targets over occupied Europe with previously unachievable accuracy.

Morning walk level 1, afternoon walk level 2 (involves some rough walking); come to one or both. Meet at Wick or Thurso railway stations at 10am, and then drive to Dunnet Head car park.
